Coral DNA Double Wave Weave
Coral DNA
10’ x 3’ (120” x 36”)
Double Wave Weave
With dye painted warp & hem stitch finish.
Majority cotton, with
accents of chenille, bamboo, and rayon.
I wove waves in this double weave by pushing two looms back-to-back. this allowed control of both warp break beams separately. I painted one warp to give it an ombre effect, and chose weft threads to really accentuate the color differences. The many colors, materials, & textures emulate the complexities and diversity of coral reef systems.
I’ve been focusing on making utilitarian objects since most of my work has been inaccessible for a long time. I have pushed boundaries and tested techniques for a while, I have proved I can create, and now I just want to focus on making something really intimate and perfectly crafted. To feel my love and energy wrapped around you. The price is still… high, but it’s still within a range that I believe we can both be comfortable with. I have decided to really focus on an intended pattern that I can “claim” as part of my own brand DNA. This is not my original design, it’s a vintage pattern at least 80 years old, but the history could be much longer, and had various owners prior to me. I feel like I resonate with the undulating forms, “they” (as I refer to them as forms) represent the interconnectedness of humanity. The humanoid forms stretch as long as strands of DNA, just like our history of being connected goes beyond our grasp. The anthropomorphic nature of the forms are an interest and theme in my work, it’s in unity.
